THE DUPONT CHALLENGE: Science Essay Competition
The Dupont Challenge calls on students to research, think critically, and write a science essay that provides innovative ideas on our most pressing global challenges, or demonstrates the application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to our daily lives. There are four different categories to write about. The essay needs to be submitted online by January 31, 2012. GIRLS ON ICE - POLAR EXPRESS
Organizers announce that the Girls on Ice 2013 Expeditions are now accepting applications. The 2013 program includes two expeditions. The original North Cascades expedition on Mount Baker in Washington State
will be held 21 July - 1 August 2013, and an Alaska-based expedition will take place 21 June - 2 July 2013.
Girls on Ice is a unique, free, wilderness science education program for high school girls. Each year a team of nine teenage girls and three instructors spend 11 days exploring and learning about mountain glaciers
and alpine landscapes through scientific field studies with professional glaciologists and mountaineers.
Applicants must be at least fifteen years old by 21 June 2013 and no older than eighteen on 1 August 2013. The application process requires a series of short essay questions and two teacher recommendations. The
Alaskan expedition is primarily intended for Alaskan and Pacific Northwest girls. For further information, or to download the application form, please go to: http://girlsonice.org/apply.
Funding for Girls on Ice is provided through small grants; gifts from individuals and support from the National Science Foundation, the Alaska Climate Science Center, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
